Law Enforcement Officers Rights & Protections
Here are the "HIGHLIGHTS" on the recent contract settlements negotiated by the Labor Council:
Amtrak Police Lodge 189:
Amtrak police officers ratified their contract by a vole of 176—106 on July 10, 2006 after having been without a contract or raises for over six years.
It should be noted that the success of these negotiations was the hard work and dedication of the members of the NJ Labor Council as well as the members of FOP Lodge 189. However, a great deal of credit must also go to the National FOP, our Legislative Office and our Labor Services for their untiring efforts as getting Congress to pass additional funding which made this process a success and answering questions from Amtrak officers around the country.
Raises for the officers ranged between 25% to as high as 80%, depending on your rank and years of service. An example would be a patrolman at top salary who was making approximately $43,000 jumped to a base salary of $78,000.
Another important aspect of these negotiations is the fact that the Teamsters were preparing to challenge the FOP for the bargaining rights of these officers. The Teamsters attempted to come in after all the work was done by the FOP, file for a representation election to win the bargaining rights, then take credit for all our hard work to make themselves look good in their attempts to sway other FOP Lodges around the country to join the Teamsters.
